ヒマラヤの西部、パキスタンからネパール西部が原産です。標高１５００〜２７００メートルの開けた斜面や湿り気のある場所に生え、高さは５０〜９０センチになります。根生葉は大きく、銀緑色で絹毛に被われています。初夏に茎頂から大きな花序をだし、淡い藤色の唇形花を咲かせます。カシミール地方では、根を風邪や咳止めの民間薬として利用するそうです。

シソ科アキギリ属の多年草で、学名は Salvia moorcroftiana。英名はありません。

The Salvia moorcroftiana belongs to Lamiaceae (the Mint family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the Western Himalaya, from Pakistan to western Nepal. This herb grows in open slopes or wastelands at 1500-2700 m elevation, and can reach 50-90 cm in height. The basal leaves are large silvery-green covered with silky hairs. The large inflorescences are borne on the stem apices and bloom pale lilac labiate flowers in early summer. The roots are used in the treatment of colds and counghs in Kashmir.
