メキシコが原産です。「チェリーセージ（Salvia greggii）」に似ていますが、小型で高さは７０〜８０センチほどです。日向から半日陰に育ち、耐寒性があります。花期は長く、夏から秋ごろまで。鮮やかな紫色の花を咲かせます。

シソ科アキギリ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Salvia muelleri。英名は Royal purple sage、Mueller's sage。

The Royal purple sage (Salvia muelleri) belongs to Lamiaceae (the Mint family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Mexico. It is similar to "Cherry sage" (Salvia greggii), but smaller and about 70-80 cm high. This herb grows in the shade from the sun and is cold-resistant. The flowering season is long, from summer to fall. The bright purple flowers come in bloom.
