The cedar sage (Salvia roemeriana) belongs to Lamiaceae (the Mint family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Texas, Arizona in the United States, and northern Mexico. This herb grows in cedar brakes, oak woodlands and rock outcroppings, and up to 30-60 cm in height. The leaves are a grassy green, rounded, and scalloped. The plant dying back to the ground in winter. The bright scarlet flowers bloom on racemes from spring through summer. The epithet honors German geologist Ferdinand von Roemer.
