サルビア (緋衣草)

ブラジルが原産です。ふつうに「サルビア」といえばこのスプレンデンス種を指します。高さは３０〜６０センチほどになり、３月から１１月ごろ、真っ赤な花を咲かせます。花弁はすぐに落ちますが、色づいた萼が残るために枯れないようにみえます。最近では園芸品種も多く作出され、ピンク色や紫色、白色、黄色などの花色もでてきました。 |

シソ科アキギリ属の多年草で、学名は Salvia splendens。英名は Scarlet sage。 |

The scarlet sage (Salvia splendens) belongs to Lamiaceae (the Mint family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Brazil. This herb can reach 30-60 cm in height and blooms bright red flowers from March to November. The petals fall soon, though the colored calyces remain for a long time. Nowadays, there are many cultivars with flowers in various colors - pink, purple, white or yellow. |
