おそらくは「サルビア・ネモローサ（Salvia nemorosa）」と「サルビア・アンプレクシカウリス（Salvia amplexicaulis）」との種間交雑種と考えられています。確たる証拠はありませんが。乾燥には強く、高さは６０〜９０センチになります。葉は灰緑色で卵形、対生します。５月から１０月ごろ、長い穂状花序をだし、青ふじ色から淡いピンク色の花を咲かせます。写真の品種は「ブルークイーン（cv. Blue Queen）」。

シソ科アキギリ属の半常緑多年草で、学名は Salvia x superba。英名はありません。

The Salvia x superba belongs to Lamiaceae (the Mint family). It is probably an interspecific hybrid between Salvia nemorosa and Salvia amplexicaulis. There is no conclusive evidence. This herb has drought-tolerant and can reach 60-90 cm in height. The leaves are silvery green, ovate and arranged oppositely. The long spikes are borne and the violet-blue to pale pink flowers bloom from April to October.
