東ヨーロッパから西アジアに分布しています。高さは１メートルくらいになり、６月から７月ごろ、淡い青紫色の花を咲かせます。ヨーロッパでは古くから、腹痛薬や疣の治療薬として使用されてきました。現在では、葉は香辛料やハーブティーに利用されています。

The Balsamic sage (Salvia tomentosa) belongs to Lamiaceae (the Mint family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Eastern Europe to West Asia. It is about 1 m high and blooms pale bluish-purple flowers from June to July. It has long been used in Europe as a remedy for abdominal pain and warts. Today, the leaves are used in spices and herbal teas.
