The Sansevieria deserti belongs to Agavaceae (the Agave family). It is an evergreen shrub that is distributed from southwestern Tanzania to Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana in Africa. It grows in areas that receive rain in summer, open savanna forests, and along riverbanks, and is 90 to 120 cm tall. It spreads laterally with woody creeping stems, and forms large, dense colonies with shoots growing at regular intervals. The leaves are cylindrical and upright, and the dark green mottled pattern is striking. Formerly in the genus Sansevieria, it is now included in Dracaena.
