わが国の本州、富山県から山口県にかけての日本海側と瀬戸内側の山口県光市まで分布しています。「しまかんぎく（Chrysanthemum indicum）」の変種ですが、全体に大きいのが特徴です。葉は５中裂し、裏面に白い軟毛が生えています。１０月から１２月ごろ、枝先や葉腋に直径３０〜４５ミリの白色または黄色の頭花を咲かせます。

キク科キク属の多年草で、学名は Chrysanthemum indicum var. aphrodite。英名はありません。

"San-in-giku" (Chrysanthemum indicum var. aphrodite) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Toyama prefecture to Yamaguchi prefecture in the Sea of Japan side of Honshu and Hikari city in Yamaguchi prefecture in the Setouchi region in Japan. It is a variant of "Shima-kan-giku" (Chrysanthemum indicum), but it is characterized by being large overall. The leaves are split in 5 and have white vellus hair on the back. From October to December, white or yellow flower heads with a diameter of 30 to 45 mm bloom on the tips of branches and axils.
