北アメリカの東部に分布しています。湿り気のある森に生え、高さは３０〜７５センチになります。根生葉や下部の葉は掌状に５〜７裂します。また中部から上部の葉は、３出複葉です。春の終わりから盛夏にかけて、緑白色のごく小さな花を咲かせます。果実はほとんど球形の２分果です。

The Clustered blacksnakeroot (Sanicula odorata) belongs to Apiaceae (the Carrot family). It is a perennial herb that is native to eastern North America. This herb grows in moist woods, and it can reach 30-75 cm in height. The basal and lower leaves are palmately divided into 5-7 leaflets. The middle to upper leaves are trifoliate with 3 leaflets. The greenish-white, tine flowers bloom in the umbels from late spring to mid-summer. The fruits are almost globe-shaped mericarps.
