インドシナ半島からマレーシアが原産です。熱帯果樹で、今では東南アジアで広く栽培されています。高さは３０メートルにもなり、葉は三出複葉です。葉腋から花序をだして黄緑色の花を咲かせます。果実は球形で橙黄色、香りが良く甘酸っぱい味です。

センダン科サンドリクム属の常緑高木で、学名は Sandoricum koetjape。英名は Santol。

The Santol (Sandoricum koetjape) belongs to Meliaceae (the Mahogany family). It is a tall evergreen tree that is native to Malaysia and the Indochina Peninsula. It is a tropical fruit tree and is now widely cultivated in Southeast Asia. The height is as high as 30 m, and the leaves are trifoliate. Inflorescences are borne on the axils and bloom yellow-green flowers. The fruits are spherical, orange-yellow, fragrant and sweet and sour.
