わが国の本州、中部地方以西から四国・九州に分布しています。山地の明るい半日陰に生え、高さは５０〜１００センチほどになります。葉は披針形であまり多くつきません。６月から７月ごろ、茎の先に淡紅色の漏斗形の花を咲かせます。爽やかな芳香があります。名前は、葉が「ささ（笹）」に似ていることから。鱗茎は、昔から食用にされてきました。

The Bamboo lily (Lilium japonicum) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Chubu region of Honshu west to Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan. This herb grows in the bright half-shade of the mountains and can reach a height of 50 to 100 cm. The leaves are lanceolate and do not have many. From June to July, pink funnel-shaped flowers come on the tips of the stems. It has a refreshing fragrance. The name is because the leaves resemble "sasa". Bulbs have long been edible.
