さくらすみれ (桜菫)

わが国の各地をはじめ、朝鮮半島や中国東北部に分布しています。丘陵から山地の林内や草地に生え、高さは８〜１５センチになります。葉は長楕円状卵形から三角状卵形で粗い鋸歯があり、長い葉柄がつきます。葉柄に翼はありません。４月から６月ごろ、花柄を伸ばして、濃紅紫色から青紫色、白色などの花を咲かせます。距は大きく、側弁の基部には毛が密生します。名前は、「さくら」のように花弁の先端が切れ込む個体があることから。 |

"Sakura-sumire" (Viola hirtipes) belongs to Violaceae (the Violet family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Japan, the Korean Peninsula and northeastern China. This herb grows in hillsides to montane forests or grasslands and can reach 8-15 cm in height. The leaves are oblong-ovate to deltoid-ovate with coarsely toothed edges. The petioles are long and non-winged. The flowers are dark magenta, bluish-purple to white and borne on the long peduncles. The spurs are large and the short hairs bear densely on the bases of lateral petals. |
