わが国の各地をはじめ、朝鮮半島や中国東北部に分布しています。丘陵から山地の林内や草地に生え、高さは８〜１５センチになります。葉は長楕円状卵形から三角状卵形で粗い鋸歯があり、長い葉柄がつきます。葉柄に翼はありません。４月から６月ごろ、花柄を伸ばして、濃紅紫色から青紫色、白色などの花を咲かせます。距は大きく、側弁の基部には毛が密生します。和名は「さくら」のように花弁の先端が切れ込む個体があることから。中国語では「毛柄菫菜（mao bing jin cai）」と呼ばれます。 |

The "Sakura-sumire" (Viola hirtipes) belongs to Violaceae (the Violet family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Japan, the Korean Peninsula and northeastern China. This herb grows in hillsides to montane forests or grasslands and can reach 8-15 cm in height. The leaves are oblong-ovate to deltoid-ovate with coarsely toothed edges. The petioles are long and non-winged. The flowers are dark magenta, bluish-purple to white and borne on the long peduncles. The spurs are large and the short hairs bear densely on the bases of lateral petals. The Japanese name comes from the fact that some individuals have petals with the tips cut off like "Sakura" (cherry). In Chinese, it is called "毛柄菫菜"(mao bing jin cai). |
