The "Satsunan-mannen-gusa" (Sedum diversiflorum) belongs to Crassulaceae (the Orpine family). It is a perennial evergreen herb that is endemic to the Tokara Islands and Yoron Island in Kagoshima Prefecture,in Japan. It was described as a new species in the Nordic Journal of Botany in September 2025 by a research group led by Takuro Ito of Tohoku University. Genetic analysis suggests that this species originated from a historical hybridization between the "Danjo mannen-gusa" (Sedum danjoense), endemic to the Danjo Islands, and the "Miyako-hama-mannen-gusa" (Sedum formosanum ssp. miyakojimense), endemic to Miyako Island, and has since evolved independently. This species is characterized by its flowering period from October to December, the stems should not be trifurcated, as well as the presence of flowers with varying numbers of pistils, stamens, and petals even within a single plant.
