The Columnar saxifrage (Saxifraga diapensioides) belongs to Saxifragaceae (the Saxifrage family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the south-westerm Alps in Europe. This herb grows on limestone rocks, 1500-2900 m elevation, and can reach 5-10 cm in height. The stems are columnar and the leaves are imbricate, oblong ,carnose and blue-green. The floral stems are glandular and the 2-6, white flowers bloom from July to August.
