The Musky saxifrage (Saxifraga moschata) belongs to Saxifragaceae (the Saxifrage family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the Pyrennes, the Alps, and the northern and central parts of the Apennins. This herb grows in rocks, stony places 1200-4000 m elevation and can reach 1-10 cm in height. It forms fairly dense cushions. The leaves are 3-15 mm long, usually 3-lobed, but sometimes 5-lobed or unlobed. The dull yellow or cream flowers bloom from July to August.
