シェファーやし (シェファー椰子) [Index] [Back] ニューギニアの中北部の海岸の固有種です。低地の熱帯雨林に生え、高さは４．５〜７メートルになります。膨れた緑色のクラウンシャフトがあり、５０センチほどになります。葉は濃緑色で、長さは１．５メートルほどです。花は白色で、花後に濃紫色の果実ができます。  ヤシ科ニコバルヤシ属の常緑低木で、学名は Ptychosperma schefferi。英名は Scheffer's palm。  Scheffer's palm (Ptychosperma schefferi) belongs to Arecaceae (the Palm family). It is a small evergreen tree that is endemic to the central north coast of New Guinea. This tree grows in lowland rainforest, and up to a height of 4.5-7 m. It has a bulging green crownshaft which grows about 50 cm long. The leaves are dark green, growing 1.5 m long.
