シザンサス (胡蝶草) [Index] [Back] ムレゴチョウ属は南アメリカのチリに１５〜２０種が自生しています。ふつうはイギリスで、ピンナツス種とレツスス種の交配によってつくられたワイセトネンシス種の系統が観賞用として中心になっています。高さは３０〜４０センチになり、交配親の中間の性質があります。葉は薄緑色で、シダに似ています。雨の少ない乾燥地に自生しているので、わが国での露地栽培は困難です。３月から５月ごろ、白色や青色、ピンク色、ローズ色などの花を咲かせます。和名では「こちょうそう（胡蝶草）」と呼ばれます。  ナス科ムレゴチョウ属の一年草または二年草で、学名は Schizanthus x wisetonensis。英名は Butterfly plant、 Poor man's orchid。  The Butterfly plant (Schizanthus x wisetonensis) belongs to Solanaceae (the Nightshade family). It is an annual or a biennia herb. The genus Schizanthus has 15 to 20 species native to Chile in South America. The Weissetonensis strain, created in the United Kingdom from a cross between Schizanthus pinnatus and Schizanthus retusus (syn. Schizanthus grahamii), is usually used as the main ornamental species. It grows 30 to 40 cm tall and has characteristics intermediate to those of its hybrid parents. The leaves are light green and resemble ferns. It grows naturally in dry areas with little rainfall, making it difficult to grow in the open in Japan.
