The Elder-leaved figwort (Scrophularia sambucifolia) belongs to Scrophulariaceae (the Figwort family). It is a perennial herb that is native to southern Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. This herb grows in damp places, and on abundant roadsides, and can be up to 1.5 m in height. The leaves are interruptedly pinnate, unequal and similar to those on an Elderberry (Sambucus nigra). The flowers are swollen tubular, greenish and brown above with a large, bilobate, upper lip and shorter lateral and lower lips. The fruits are sharp capsules, up to 12 mm long.
