The Spearleaf stonecrop (Sedum lanceolatum) belongs to Crassulaceae (the Orpine family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to western North America. This herb grows on rocks, gravelly or rocky soil from sea-level to the sub-alpine zone, and up to a height 20 cm. The leaves are succulent, knobby or pointed, and form basal rosettes. Smaller leaves occur farther up the stem and often fall away by the time the plant blooms. The flowers are yellow sometimes tinged with red and bloom from July to August.
