ペルーやボリビアが原産です。高さは３０〜５０センチになり、森林の半日陰に生えています。名前は以前、シーマンニア属（Seemannia）に分類されていたことから。秋から春にかけて、橙赤色の筒状花を咲かせます。花冠の先端がごく小さく５つに反り返ります。

イワタバコ科グロキシニア属の常緑多年草で、学名は Gloxinia sylvatica。英名は Bolivian sunset。

The Bolivian sunset (Gloxinia sylvatica) belongs to Gesneriaceae (the African violet family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to Peru and Bolivia. This herb grows in semi-shade places of woodlands and can reach 30-50 cm in height. The orange-red tubular flowers appear from fall to spring. The collora is divided into 5 lobes and recurved at the tips.
