中国の西部が原産です。現在、アメリカでは南部のフロリダ州からテキサス州あたりの温室や庭園に植栽されています。茎は直立し、高さは１５〜３０センチになります。よく４叉分枝します。葉は緑色で表面に皺があり、「いわひば（岩檜葉）」に似ています。

イワヒバ科イワヒバ属の常緑性シダ類で、学名は Selaginella braunii。英名は Arborvitae fern、Braun's spike-moss。

The Arborvitae fern (Selaginella braunii) belongs to Selaginellaceae (the Spikemoss family). It is an evergreen moss that is native to western China. Currently, it is planted in greenhouses and gardens around Texas to Florida in the south in the United States. The stems are upright and can reach 15-30 cm in height. It often branches into four furcation. The leaves are green and have wrinkles on the surface, similar to "Iwa-hiba" (Selaginella tamariscina).
