The Smooth hawksbeard (Crepis capillaris) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is an annual or a biennia herb that is native to Europe and the Caucasus. It has been introduced in North America and is now naturalized. It grows in meadows, pastures, wastelands, and roadsides, and is 30-60 cm tall. The leaves are shaped like dandelions and form rosettes. Several flower scapes emerge from the base of the plant and produce yellow flower heads. The flowers bloom from June to December, and the flower head consists of only about 60 ray florets. The young leaves and shoots are edible.
