せいようにわとこ (西洋接骨木)

西アジアからヨーロッパ、北アフリカに分布しています。高さは５〜１０メートルほどになり、奇数羽状複葉で対生します。５月から６月ごろ、枝先の散房花序に芳香のある淡い黄白色の花を咲かせます。果実は秋に黒く熟します。葉や花、果実はキッチンハーブや薬草として利用されます。イタリアのリキュール「サンブーカ（Sambuca）」は、この花や果実を香料として使っているそうです。 写真中７から中９は、園芸品種の「ブラックビューティ（cv. Black Beauty）」、 中１６〜１９・中２１〜２３は「ブラックレース（cv. Black Lace）」。 |

スイカズラ科ニワトコ属の落葉低木で、学名は Sambucus nigra。英名は Elderberry、European elder。 |

The Elderberry (Sambucus nigra) belongs to Caprifoliaceae (the Honeysuckle family). It is a small deciduous tree that is distributed West Asia, Europe and North Africa. This small tree can reach 5-10 m in height. Leaves are opposite, odd-pinnately compound. May to June, corymbs with scented pale whitish-yellow flowers are seen on the terminal branchlets. Fruits are ripen black in the fall. Leaves, flowers and fruits are used as cocking herbs and medical herbs. Sambuca (Italian liqueur) is herbed with flowers and fruits of the elderberry. |
