わが国の尖閣諸島にある魚釣島の固有種です。山頂付近の岩場に生え、高さは１メートルほどになります。若枝には扁平な剛毛が密生します。葉は倒卵形で、両面に長い毛が生えます。３月から４月ごろ、枝先に淡い紫紅色の花を２個ずつ咲かせます。花冠は５中裂し、上側内面に濃色の斑点があります。環境省のレッドリストでは絶滅危惧IＡ類（ＣＲ）に分類されています。

ツツジ科ツツジ属の常緑低木で、学名は Rhododendron eriocarpum var. tawadae。英名はありません。

The "Senkaku-tsutsuji" (Rhododendron eriocarpum var. tawadae) belongs to Ericaceae (the Azalea family). It is a small evergreen tree that is endemic to Uotsuri Island in the Senkaku Islands of Japan. It grows on rocks near the top of the mountain and grows to about 1 m tall. The young branches are densely covered with flat bristles. The leaves are obovate with long hairs on both sides. 2 pale purple-red flowers bloom at the ends of the branches from March to April. The corolla has five clefts and a dark spot on the upper inner surface. It is classified as Critically Endangered (CR) on the Ministry of the Environment's Red List.
