The "Sennin-mo" (Potamogeton maackianus) belongs to Potamogetonaceae (the Pondweed family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed throughout Japan, Taiwan, the Korean Peninsula, the Philippines, China, and Siberia. It is an aquatic plant that grows in lakes, rivers, and waterways. The stems are flat, with linear leaves arranged alternately at intervals of 2 cm. The stems and leaves are brownish green. From May to September, flower stalks emerge from the leaf axils and form inflorescences about 1 cm above the water surface. In Taiwanese Chinese, it is called "馬克眼子菜", and in Chinese, it is known as "微齒眼子菜" (wei chi yan zi cai).
