わが国の本州、中部地方以南から四国・九州それに台湾、中国、インドなど暖帯から熱帯に分布しています。山地や丘陵の林内に生え、高さは５０〜１００センチになります。葉は長楕円形から卵状楕円形で、縁には鋭い鋸歯があります。４月から６月ごろ、目立たない黄緑色の花を咲かせます。果実は球形で、晩秋に赤く熟します。名前がおめでたいところから、正月用の生け花や盆栽として飾られます。台湾華語では「草珊瑚」、中国語では「草珊瑚（cao shan hu）」と呼ばれます。 |

センリョウ科センリョウ属の常緑小低木で、学名は Sarcandra glabra。英名はありません。 |

The "Senryo" (Sarcandra glabra) belongs to Myrsinaceae (the Myrsine family). It is an evergreen shrub that is distributed southward from Chubu district of Honshu to Shikoku and Kyushu, as well as the warm to tropical areas, Taiwan, China, India and so on. This shrub grows in forests of mountains and hikksides, and can reach 50-100 cm in height. The leaves are ovate-lanceolate with acute serrate edges. The inconspicuous yellowish-green flowers bloom from April to June. The fruits are spherical and ripen red in late fall. They are adorned in Japan during New Year's Day and Bonsai. In Taiwanese Chinese, it is called "草珊瑚" and "草珊瑚" (cao shan hu) in Chinese. |
