The Tongue orchid (Serapias lingua) belongs to Orchdaceae (the Orchid family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in Mediterranean Europe, West Asia, and North Africa. It grows in sunny meadows and pastures and is about 50 cm tall. There are spherical caudexes in the ground. The leaves are narrowly elliptic, 4 to 8 in number. From March to May, it produces a raceme at the top of the stem with several flowers that bloom in a spiral pattern. The labellum is red and long and drooping. The corolla is characterized by a dark reddish purple spot on the throat.
