"Seishika" (Rhododendron latoucheae) belongs to Ericaceae (the Azalea family). It is a semi-tall evergreen tree that is distributed to Ishigakijima and Iriomotejima of the Yaeyama Islands in Japan, Taiwan and Central and southern China. This tree grows in the forests along the rivers and on the rocky places of the forest edges, and its height is 2-5 m. The leaves are oblong to narrow-oblong, leathery, and gathered at the tip of the branches. The 3-5 light peach purple or peach flowers will bloom at the termimal branches from March to April. The corolla has magenta mottles on the upper-inner side. It has 10 stamens. Another name is also called "Yaeyama-seishika".
