The "Sekimon-uraiso" (Procris boninensis) belongs to Urticaceae (the Nettle family). It is a perennial herb that is endemic to the Hahajima Islands in the Ogasawara Islands of Japan. It grows in the limestone area of the Sekimon district and is 50 to 60 cm tall. The stem is fleshy and ribbed, and the base becomes woody. The leaves are elliptic-lanceolate with serrated edges and grow in clusters at the ends of branches, and in alternate. The pale green flowers bloom in a radiate form at the top of the stem from May to June. It is listed as a critically endangered species (CR) on the Red List of the Ministry of the Environment. It is a close relative of the "烏來麻" (Procris laevigata), which is widely distributed from Taiwan to the Philippines, southern China, Southeast Asia, India and Africa, and some people believe that they are the same species.
