Trifolium pacificum)。英名は Lupine clover。
The Lupine clover (Trifolium lupinaster) belongs to Fabaceae (the Pea family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed northward from Chubu district of Honshu to Hokkaido in Japan, as well as the Korean Peninsula, northern China, Russia and East Europe. This herbgrows in arid mountains and coastal rocky places, and can reach 15-50 cm in height. The leaves are palmately compound and arranged in alternate. They seem like whorled leaflets because of the short petioles. The racemes are borne and the magenta to white flowers bloom from June to August. It is called "野火球" (ye huo qiu) in Chinese.
In Korean, it's called "dal-gu-ji-pul" (달구지풀). This is a compound word consisting of "cart" (dal-gu-ji: 달구지) + "grass" (pul: 풀). It is said that the plant was named based on the Japanese name "Shajiku-so", which is associated with the axle of a cart pulled by oxen or horses.
