しょうが (生姜) [Index] [Back] インドからマレー半島が原産といわれています。現在では、熱帯地方や温帯地方の一部で広く栽培されています。偽茎は直立し、高さは５０センチほどになります。地下茎は多肉で、黄色の塊状をなし、辛味とよい香りがあります。まれに地下茎から花茎をだし、頂部に短い円筒状の花序をつけます。花冠は黄緑色です。地下茎は、香辛料や薬味、焼き菓子などに利用されます。 中５の品種は、「さんしゅう（三州）」、 中６は、「おうみ（近江）」、 そして中７・下が、「ちゅうぶと（中太）」。 ショウガ科ショウガ属の多年草で、学名は Zingiber officinale。英名は Ginger。 The Ginger (Zingiber officinale) belongs to Zingiberaceae (the Ginger family). It is a perennial herb that is probably native from India to the Malay Peninsula. Nowadays, it is cultivated widely in the tropical region and the part of temperate region. The pseudostems are erect and can reach about 50 cm in height. The rhizomes are succulent, yellow aggregated and have pungent taste and delicious fragrance. Rarely the flowering stalks are borne on the rhizomes and produce short cylindrical clustes on the apexes. The corollas are yellowish green. The rhizomes are used as apices, condiments or baked goods.
