わが国の本州、紀伊半島や四国の限られた範囲に分布しています。川岸の岩場に生え、高さは５０センチくらいになります。よく分枝して、７月から８月ごろ、葉腋や枝先に淡い紫色の花を咲かせます。花冠は長い漏斗形で、先端が５裂します。別名で「いわはぎ（岩萩）」とも呼ばれます。

アカネ科シチョウゲ属の落葉小低木で、学名は Leptodermis pulchella。英名はありません。

"Shichoge" (Leptodermis pulchella) belongs to Rubiaceae (the Madder family). It is a deciduous shrub that is endemic to the Kii Peninsula of Honshu and Shikoku in Japan. This shrub grows on rocky places along river, and can reach about 50 cm in height. The stems are much-branched. The pale purple flowers bloom in the axils and terminal branches from July to August. The corolla is long funnel-shaped with quintuple-lobate tips.
