わが国の本州、岡山県以西から四国北部・九州北部それに朝鮮半島に分布する「げんかいつつじ（Rhododendron mucronulatum var. ciliatum）」の白花品種です。丘陵から山地に生え、高さは１．５〜２メートルになります。葉は楕円形から披針形で、枝先に集まってつきます。３月から４月ごろ、白色の花を咲かせます。花冠は漏斗形で５深裂します。

ツツジ科ツツジ属の落葉低木で、学名は Rhododendron mucronulatum var. albiflorum。英名はありません。

"Shirobana-genkai-tsutsuji" (Rhododendron mucronulatum var. albiflorum) belongs to Ericaceae (the Azalea family). It is a deciduous small tree that is a white flower variety of "Rhododendron mucronulatum var. Ciliatum" distributed from Okayama prefecture of Honshu west to northern Shikoku, northern Kyushu in Japan, and the Korean Peninsula. It grows from hills to mountains and can reach 1.5 to 2 m in height. The leaves are elliptic to lanceolate and gather at the tips of the branches. White flowers come in March to April. The corolla is funnel-shaped and splits 5 deeply.
