中国の東南部、四川省などに分布しています。標高１４００〜１８００メートルの藪や林に生え、高さは２０〜４０センチになります。葉は心形から腎臓形、鏃型をしていて濃い緑色です。５月から６月ごろ、花茎を伸ばして白色の花を咲かせます。毒蛇の解毒剤として利用されるそうです。

ケシ科エオメコン属の多年草で、学名は Eomecon chionantha。英名は Snow poppy。

The Snow poppy (Eomecon chionantha) belongs to Papaveraceae (the Poppy family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Sichuan in the southeastern China. This herb grows in thickets and woods at 1400-1800 m elevation, and can reach 20-40 cm in height. The leaves are cordate to reniform, arrow-shaped and dark green. The flowering stalks are borne and bloom white flowers from May to June. This herb is used as a detoxicant of fanged snake.
