わが国の北海道西南部、それに本州の関東地方以西から四国・九州に分布する「ほととぎす（杜鵑）」の一品種です。山地に生え、高さは４０〜１００センチになります。葉は長楕円形から披針形で、基部は茎を抱きます。８月から９月ごろ、葉腋に１〜３個の花を咲かせます。花披片は白色で６個あり、内側に斑点がありません。下部には黄色の斑紋があります。

ユリ科ホトトギス属の多年草で、学名は Tricyrtis hirta f. albescens。英名は White toad lily。

The White toad lily (Tricyrtis hirta f. albescens) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is a perennial herb that is a variety of "Toad lily" that is distributed to southwestern part of Hokkaido and from Kanto region of Honshu west to Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan. It grows in the mountains and can reach 40 to 100 cm in height. The leaves are oblong to lanceolate, with the base enfolding the stem. From August to September, 1 to 3 flowers bloom on the axils. The perianths are white and have 6 pieces, and there are no spots on the inside. There are yellow spots at the bottom of perianth.
