南アフリカが原産です。高さは５〜１０センチほどになります。１０月から１月ごろ、真っ白な花弁に赤色の縁取りのある花を咲かせます。つぼみのときには、渦巻き形の花が床屋の看板柱のように見えます。学名のまま、「オキザリス・ウェルシコロル」とも呼ばれます。

カタバミ科カタバミ属の多年草で、学名は Oxalis versicolor。英名は Barber's pole。

The Barber's pole (Oxalis versicolor) belongs to Oxalidaceae (the Wood sorrel family). It is a perennial herb that is native to South Africa. The height will be about 5 to 10 cm. From October to January, the white petals have red borders. When it's a bud, the swirl-shaped flowers looks like a barber's sign. As it is the scientific name, it is also called "Oxalis welcicorol".
