ブラジル原産の「しこんのぼたん（Tibouchina urvilleana）」の園芸品種です。耐寒性があり、暖地で降霜がなければ屋外での植栽ができます。高さは１〜３メートルほどになり、葉は狭楕円形で葉脈が目立ちます。９月から１１月ごろ、青紫色の花を咲かせます。写真中・下は咲き始めでピンク色がかっていることから、「コートダジュール・ピンク（cv. Cote d'Azur Pink）」かも知れません。

ノボタン科シコンノボタン属の常緑小低木で、学名は Tibouchina cv. Cote d'Asur。英名は Glorybush 'Cote d'Asur'。

The Glorybush 'Cote d'Asur' (Tibouchina cv. Cote d'Asur) belongs to Melastmataceae (the Melastome family). It is an evergreen shrub that is a cultivar of "Glorybush" (Tibouchina urvilleana) native to Brazil. It is cold-resistant and can be planted outdoors in warm climates without frost. The height is about 1 to 3 m, and the leaves are narrow elliptic and the veins are conspicuous. The bluish-purple flowers come in September to November. The 3rd and bottom of the photo are pinkish at the beginning of blooming, so it may be a cultivar 'Cote d'Azur Pink'.
