わが国の南西諸島から台湾、中国、東南アジア、インドに分布しています。「くわずいも（Alocasia odora）」よりも小型で、高さは６０〜９０センチほどです。葉は濃緑色のハート形です。有毒で、観賞用として栽培されます。台湾華語では「尖尾姑婆芋」、中国語では「尖尾芋（jian wei yu）」と呼ばれます。

サトイモ科クワズイモ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Alocasia cucullata。英名は Chinese taro、Chinese ape。

The Chinese taro (Alocasia cucullata) belongs to Araceae (the Arum family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed from the Southwest Islands of Japan to Taiwan China, Southeast Asia and India. This herb is smaller than "Giant elephant's ear" (Alocasia odora) and can reach 60-90 cm in height. Leaves are deep green and heart-shaped. This herb is toxic and cultivated for ornamental plant. In Taiwanese Chinese, it is called "尖尾姑婆芋", and "尖尾芋" (jian wei yu) in Chinese.
