わが国の北海道から本州の日本海側、それに四国に分布しています。山地に生え、高さは５〜１５センチになります。葉は長倒卵形で対生し、粗い鈍頭の鋸歯があります。葉の表面は葉脈に沿って紫色になり、裏面は紫色を帯びます。４月から５月ごろ、上部の葉腋に、淡い紫色の唇形花を咲かせます。上唇は小さくて２裂し、下唇は大きくて３裂します。

シソ科キランソウ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Ajuga yezoensis f. albiflora。英名はありません。

"Shirobana-nishiki-goromo" (Ajuga yezoensis f. albiflor) belongs to Lamiaceae (the Mint family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed to Hokkaido, the Japan Sea Side of Honshu and Shikoku in Japan. This herb grows in montains and can reach 5-15 cm in height. The leaves are long-obovate, opposite, and coarsely obtuce serrated. They have purple patchs outlining the veins above and are tinged purplish below. The pale purple labiate flowers bloom at the upper axils from April to May. The corolla consists of small bilobate upper lip and large three-lobed lower lip.
