The Centradenia Cascade (Centradenia inaequilateralis cv. Cascade) belongs to Melastmataceae (the Melastome family). It is an evergreen shrub that is a cultivar of Centradenia inaequilateralis native to southern Mexico, and Central America. It is semi-trailing, tender and can reach about 30 cm in height. The leave are ovate to elliptic, dark olive green leaves, red- to bronze-flushed in fall. It is characterized by having pinnate veins on the leaves. From summer into fall, 4-petalled, deep pink to magenta flowers bloom. This cultivar 'Cascade' has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. It is thought that it is this "Cascade" strain that is distributed as "Shidare-nobotan" in Japan.
