しだれのぼたん (枝垂れ野牡丹) [Index] [Back] メキシコの南部から中央アメリカが原産のイナエクイラテラリス種の園芸品種です。それは半蔓性で柔らかく、高さは３０センチになります。葉は卵形から楕円形で濃いオリーブグリーン、秋には赤色から赤銅色に紅葉します。葉に羽状脈があるのが特徴です。夏から秋にかけて、４弁で濃いピンク色から赤紫色の花を咲かせます。この品種「カスケード」は、王立園芸協会のガーデンメリット賞を受賞しています。わが国で「しだれのぼたん（枝垂れ野牡丹）」として流通するのは、この「カスケード」の系統だと思われます。  ノボタン科ケントラデニア属の常緑小低木で、学名は Centradenia inaequilateralis cv. Cascade。英名は Centradenia Cascade。  The Centradenia Cascade (Centradenia inaequilateralis cv. Cascade) belongs to Melastmataceae (the Melastome family). It is an evergreen shrub that is a cultivar of Centradenia inaequilateralis native to southern Mexico, and Central America. It is semi-trailing, tender and can reach about 30 cm in height. The leave are ovate to elliptic, dark olive green leaves, red- to bronze-flushed in fall. It is characterized by having pinnate veins on the leaves. From summer into fall, 4-petalled, deep pink to magenta flowers bloom. This cultivar 'Cascade' has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
