The Big sheath mushroom (Volvopluteus gloiocephalus) belongs to the family Pluteaceae. It is a mushroom that is distributed throughout the world except Antarctica. It grows from early summer to early winter in fertile soil in forests, fields, and gardens, and is 10 to 20 cm tall. The cap is ovate to spherical at first, and later open to a flattened bunched shape to slightly medium height, 5 to 15 cm in diameter. The cap is white to grayish, viscous and smooth. The gills are white and later become flesh-colored. The stipe is white with a pouch-like volva at its base.
