北アメリカの東部から中部に分布しています。草地や平地の林内、海岸線などに生え、高さは１０〜５０センチになります。葉は線形で、根生します。５月から７月ごろ、青色から青紫色で中心が黄色い花を咲かせます。花は３個が花弁、３個が花弁に似た萼片です。

アヤメ科ニワゼキショウ属の多年草で、学名は Sisyrinchium angustifolium。英名は Blue-eyed grass。

The Blue-eyed grass (Sisyrinchium angustifolium) belongs to Iridaceae (the Iris family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in eastern and central North America. This herb grows in meadows, low woods or shorelines and can reach 10-50 cm in height. The leaves are linear and basal. The small, blue or violet-blue flowers with yellow centers come in May to July. The flower consists of 3 petals and 3 petal-like sepals.
