わが国の北海道西部、雨竜地方の特産種です。「もいわしゃじん(藻岩沙参)」の変種で、蛇紋岩地帯に生え、高さは10〜20センチになります。葉は楕円形で厚く、互生します。夏に漏斗形をした淡紫色の花を咲かせます。別名で「うりゅうしゃじん(雨竜沙参)」とも呼ばれます。 
キキョウ科ツリガネニンジン属の多年草で、学名は Adenophora perskiaefolia var. uryuensis。英名はありません。 
"Shiratori-shajin" (Adenophora perskiaefolia var. uryuensis) belongs to Campanulaceae (the Bellflower family). It is a perennial herb that is an endemic species of the Uryu region in western Hokkaido in Japan. It is a variety of "Moiwa-shajin" and grows in serpentine areas and is 10 to 20 cm in height. The leaves are elliptic thick and alternate. The funnel-shaped pale purple flowers come in summer. It is also known as "Uryu-shajin" in Jaoan.
