わが国の本州、関東地方以西と四国に分布しています。「しょうじょうばかま（猩々袴）」の変種で、山地の湿ったところに生え、高さは１０〜３０センチになります。根生葉はロゼット状で、その中心から鱗片葉のついた花茎を伸ばします。３月から４月ごろ、花茎の先に白い花を咲かせます。「しょうじょうばかま」よりも葉がやや薄く、縁が細かく波打つなどの特徴があります。

ユリ科ショウジョウバカマ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Heloniopsis orientalis var. flavida。英名は White Japanese hyacinth。

The White Japanese hyacinth (Heloniopsis orientalis var. flavida) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is an evergreen herb that is native from Kanto district of Honshu west to Shikoku in Japan. This herb is a variety of Japanese hyacinth, it grows in montane wet places and can reach 10-30 cm in height. The basal leaves are rosette and the scapes with scaly leaves bear in the central of leaves. The white flowers bloom atop of scapes from March to April. The leaves are thinner than Japanese hyacinth and with fine scalloped edges.
