"Shishin-ran" (Lysionotus pauciflorus) belongs to Gesneriaceae (the African violet family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to southwest Japan, the Ryukyu Islands, and East Asia. This shrub is an epiphyte on mossy trunks of trees in laurel forests, and it can reach 20-30 cm in height. It is much-branched and produces leaves in opposite or 3 whorled. The leaves are leathery and oblong-lanceolate, with blunt tooth edges. The pale rose pink to white, tubular, 1-2 flowers bloom in the axillary clusters atop of stems in summer.
