わが国の本州、福島県以南から四国・九州、それに台湾や中国に分布しています。「しらん（紫蘭）」の一品種です。やや湿った岩上や林内に生え、高さは３０～７０センチになります。葉は大きな披針形で、茎の下部に、４～６個が生えます。４月から６月ごろ、茎頂に白色の花を、数個咲かせます。花被片は６個あります。唇弁の先は浅く３裂し、真ん中の裂片には内側に襞があります。果実は蒴果です。

The white hyacinth orchid (Bletilla striata f. gebina) belongs to Orchidaceae (the Orchid family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Fukushima prefecture of Honsu to Shikoku and Kyushu, as well as Taiwan and China. It is a variety of "hyacinth orchid". This herb grows on slightly moist rocks and in forests and can reach 30-70 cm in height. The leaves are large lanceolate and 4-6 grow on the bottom of the stem. The several white flowers come on the shoot apex from April to June. They have 6 tepals. The tip of the lip is shallowly split into three, and the middle lobe has frills on the inside. The fruit is a capsule.
