ニワゼキショウ属は、アメリカ大陸とその周辺に１００種ほどが分布しています。わが国でも「にわぜきしょう（Sisyrinchium atlanticum）」が広く帰化しています。写真上・中１～３は園芸品種の「カリフォルニアスカイ（cv. California Sky）」。高さは２０～２５センチで、４月から５月ごろ、鮮やかな空色の花を咲かせます。

アヤメ科ニワゼキショウ属の多年草で、学名は Sisyrinchium sp.（属の総称）。英名は Blue-eyed grass。

The Blue-eyed grass (Sisyrinchium sp.) belongs to Iridaceae (the Iris family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed mainly in the New World, and adjacent areas about 100 species. Eastern blue-eyed grass (Sisyrinchium atlanticum) is naturalized widely into Japan. The 1st to 4th photos are a cultivar 'California Sky'. This cultivar can reach 20-25 cm in height, and bright sky-blue flowers bloom from April to May.
