The "Shirobana-sakura-tade" (Persicaria japonica) belongs to Polygonaceae (the Knotweed family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Japan, as well as Taiwan, the Korean Peninsula and China. This herb grows in bogs and can reach 50-100 cm in height. It spreads by rhizomatous roots. The leaves are lanceolate and alternate. It is dioecious. The spikes are borne on the stem apices, and the white flowers bloom from August to October. It defined by smaller perianthes compared to "Sakura-tade" (Persicaria conspicua). In Taiwanese Chinese, it is called "蠶繭草", and "蚕繭蓼" (can jian liao) in Chinese.
