わが国の本州から四国・九州、それに朝鮮半島に分布する「たむらそう（田村草）」の白花品種です。山地の草原に生え、高さは５０〜１５０センチになります。「あざみ（薊）」によく似ていますが、葉は羽状に深裂から全裂して棘がありません。両面に細い毛が生えています。８月から１０月ごろ、茎の先に白色の頭花を上向きに咲かせます。

キク科タムラソウ属の多年草で、学名は Serratula coronata ssp. insularis。英名はありません。

"Shirobana-tamura-so" (Serratula coronata ssp. insularis) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is a white flower variety of "Tamura-so" distributed from to Shikoku, Kyushu in Japan and the Korean Peninsula. It grows in mountainous grasslands and can reach 50-150 cm in height. It is very similar to "thistle", but the leaves are deep pinnately to dissected and have no spines. There are fine hairs on both sides. From August to October, white flower heads bloom upward on the tip of the stem.
