ビルマからインドシナ半島に分布しています。単幹で、高さは２〜３メートルほどになります。幹の落葉跡は小突起状になります。葉は幹頂に集まり、羽状複葉で、基部には棘があります。葉は生け花の材料にも用いられています。名前は、中国名の「羅比親王海棗」または「羅比親王椰子」に由来するようです。

ヤシ科ナツメヤシ属の常緑低木で、学名は Phoenix roebelenii。英名は Pygmy date palm。

Pygmy data palm (Phoenix roebelenii) belongs to Arecaceae (the Palm family). It is a small evergreen tree that is distributed from Burma to the Indo-china Peninsula. This palm is a sigle trunk and can reach 2-3 m in height. The cicatrix is a small projection. The leaves are clustered at the shoot apex and pinnate compound with spines at the bases. The leaves are used for flora art.
